Kindle Keyboard 3G Review
Price: £149.00 from Amazon.co.uk
Verdict: 9/10!
The Kindle Keyboard 3G (Wi-Fi) is the third generation Kindle and is available from $139.99. Unlike the Kindle Touch, it has a physical keyboard underneath the 6-inch screen which is useful for taking notes or annotating graphs.
The advantage of buying the Kindle 3G is that the 3G connection means that you can download and purchase books wireless form the Amazon bookstore wherever you are. Basically, if you have a slow internet connection at home or you travel a lot then this is the best Kindle for you.
The 3G wireless connection is identical to a mobile phone network (however you don’t have to pay any monthly subscription charges). The Kindle 3G also has a Wi-Fi network which allows you to connect to your home internet and sync with any of your computer(s).
Overall, in my opinion this device is the best monochromatic Kindle on the market at the moment. Although it’s not as feature-laden as the Kindle Fire tablet, you can still download and access more than 1 million books, magazines and newspapers from the Amazon book store, listen to MP3 music or play games on it. It also has a much longer battery life than both the Kindle and Kindle touch.
Size, Weight and Specifications
The Kindle 3G has the same weight and size as the Kindle W-Fi. It measures 190x123x8.5mm
The device sits comfortably in your hand and it is significantly smaller than the Kobo eReader and the Nook eReader. The page-turn buttons on either side of the screen mean that you can hold the device in one hand whilst changing pages with your finger. This is pretty handy as it leaves your other hand completely free.
Screen Display and Settings
The Kindle Keyboard 3G uses the latest E-Ink Pearl technology. The E-Ink display mimics the feeling of ink on paper, which provides a very high contrast and crisp text display. You can read books easily in sunlight without suffering the glare and finger marks of an LCD display.
The other great thing about E-Ink technology is that you can read the device from different angles. In total there are 8 different font sizes to choose from, 2 font types, and you can zoom in or out at any time using the menu at the bottom of the device.
Storage Capacity and Battery Life
The 4GB of internal memory is enough to store up to 3,500 books, newspapers or magazines at any one time. This is more than twice the storage capacity of the $79.99 Kindle (2GB).
The battery life is very good too. It lasts up to 2 months based on half an hour of reading per day and the 3G wireless network turned off. This is better than both the Kobo eReader (1 month) and the Sony Touch PRS-600 eReading device.

Additional Reading Features and the Amazon Store
In addition to over 1 millions books which you can instantly download within 60 seconds from the Amazon Store, you can also buy movies, newspapers, 60,000+ audio books and magazines.
Other features which the Kindle Keyboard 3G offers includes an in-built MP3 player, dictionary, games and note taking. You can flip the device either horizontal or landscape to view graphs and data.
