First Game from Zynga – Words with Friends – Hits Nook
Nook, an e-book reader from Barnes & Noble, has got its first game from Zynga. Called Words with Friends, it is similar to one of the most popular word games, Scrabble. The game has made its way to the e-book reader as an app. This allows all Nook users to conveniently load and play the game at anytime.
Words with Friends was released two years ago for a few mobile devices. Since its launch, the game has been a hit among gamers. With the game reaching e-book readers on the Nook, there has been a rise in the number of users of the app.
Zynga Aims at Increasing Mass Market
Zynga’s move to introduce the game on the e-book reader has been to bring the game to devices that haven’t been designed for extensive gaming activities. The game developer has plans for increasing the mass market for its games. This is possible only if it reaches out to both traditional gaming and non-gaming platforms.
Till the game was released on the Nook, 94% of its revenue came from Facebook, the social networking site on which its app is most used. Nearly 12.5 million active users of the site use the word-game app. With the game reaching the e-book reader, the company hopes there will be diversification.
Getting started with Words with Friends on the Nook is quite easy. On opening the app, the game loads and users can play against their friends. Doing all this will take less than a few seconds. The game has been specifically created for a multiple-player experience. Words with Friends is popular even among celebrities like Alec Baldwin. Recently he caught the attention of fans of the game when he got into trouble with an airline when playing the game.
Nook Gets Several Apps in the Recent Weeks
In addition to Words with Friends, the e-book reader has been carrying a few more games. Some of them are Angry Birds, Mad GAB, Office Gamebox, Plants vs Zombies, Magic 8 Ball and Atlantis Sky Patrol. Besides game apps, the e-book reader has recently added Netflix.
