Android Ebook Readers

If you own an Android device and love to read, you can choose from a number of ebook reader softwares today. Thanks to these applications, you can now carry and read thousands of your favorite books on your Android mobile or tablet. But for a pleasurable reading experience, you should look for an Android ebook reader you are comfortable with. So here’s a short review of some of the top Android ebook readers in the market.

Aldiko

Aldiko is a popular ebook reader for Android, and can be downloaded for free. Once installed, Aldiko allows you to access and download thousands of ebooks directly onto your smartphone or tab. All the books in your library are arranged in virtual shelves, with the recently read books on top. The app gives you access to catalogs of O’Reilly Books, Smashwords and Feedbooks, along with a huge collection of romance books.

You can either buy the ebooks or download from the free collection available at these online libraries, and read them  in landscape or portrait mode. The menu options within a book include bookmark, go to a location in the book, share text, font customization, orientation and dictionary access.

Barnes and Noble Nook

The Barnes and Noble Nook is one of the most popular ebook readers that you can find in the market today. The Nook ereader app for Android allows you to access all the books and periodicals on your Nook reader, directly from your smartphone. You can also access over two million books from the Barnes and Noble ebook store with this Android ereader. The best part about using the Nook for Android is that it comes with an ebook library, which allows you to borrow a number of books for free.

Amazon Kindle

The Kindle from Amazon is perhaps the most preferred ebook reader today. With the Kindle app for Android, you can access and download Amazon’s huge collection of books directly to your smartphone, using Amazon’s Whispersync network. You can also download the books from your Kindle library, using the archived items option. The Kindle reader allows you to adjust the font size, change the background, set the level of brightness and arrange books according to the author, most recently accessed and title.

Other interesting options with this Android ebook reader are the ‘page turn animation’ and ‘popular highlights’ that can be shared with your friends via social networking.

Kobo Android App

Kobo is one of the best Android ebook readers in the market today. The app can be downloaded for free, and once installed, automatically downloads all the books in your Kobo library to the Android device. Books can be viewed in the list or the shelf format, with the books under the “I’m reading” category on top. You can use the ‘browse’ or the ‘discover’ options to search for books in specific categories, or simply use the search option to find the books you want in the Kobo ebook store. This ereader also allows you to adjust the font size, font type, and text backgrounds according to your convenience. The only flaw in this Android ebook reader is that you cannot upload books from your PC, using a USB connection.
